Ankober Palace Lodge is owned by Amba Ecotourism plc, an enterprise that provides a range of tourism services. (Such as?)

Part of the eco-tourism’s ethos is to promote employment opportunities for people from the surrounding communities in setting up tourist facilities. In Ankober, local artisans were hired to carry out the semi-skilled work of rebuilding the former palace in the same traditional style as the original. Up to one hundred farmers also worked as daily labourers on the construction site. At present the lodge employs eighteen regular staff and up to thirty daily workers. Purchase of goods, such as construction materials and food, and the provision of services to visitors further contribute to improving the livelihood opportunities of local people. (What about the gifts/ handicrafts available there? Are they made locally?)

The Ankober Palace Lodge promotes the preservation of the cultural and social fabric of society by supporting a church community school of music and poetry, and through the creation of the community museum where historical artefacts are preserved. The lodge also has launched initiatives towards the re-forestation of the palace hill and its surrounding areas (see the Photo gallery.) (Hyperlink to that section)

Visits to nearby farming households can be arranged, to learn about farming activities and enjoy local hospitality
